Crestliner and Mercury Pro John Cox Claims Victory on Smith Lake at Major League Fishing Pro Circuit Tournament
CULLMAN. Ala., March 15, 2021 – After two runner-up finishes during his past tournament outings on Smith Lake, John Cox finally took home the coveted trophy at the second stop on the Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit. This past weekend, on his Crestliner MX 21 powered by a Mercury 250 ProXS, Cox sealed the deal during the last seven minutes of competition with a last-cast catch finishing the weekend with a four-day total of 62-04.
The DeBary, Florida native has made it no secret of his desire to win on Smith Lake saying he wanted to win this tournament more than any other in the country. “This has been a really special week in so many ways," Cox told Wired2Fish. "I love this place and love fishing on Smith Lake, even despite my history - so this win is incredible."
Cox clinched his victory by calling a last-minute audible idling in for the final check-ins. With a gut feeling that he didn’t have enough weight to take home the win, Cox pulled over to a pocket, casted his jig down the drain and landed a four-pounder to win it all.
“On behalf of all of us at Crestliner, we couldn’t be prouder of John on his well-deserved win on Smith Lake,” said Joe Woodward, Crestliner senior marketing manager “His trophy-finish represents his talent and perseverance on the water, as well as our commitment to powering champions. After incredibly strong start to the season, we look forward to supporting John’s continued success throughout the 2021 season and beyond.”
Next up for Cox is the third Bassmaster Elite event of the season at Pickwick Lake in Florence, AL. Competition will begin this Thursday, March 18 and you can join him for a Facebook Live event with Crestliner Boats on Tuesday to hear all about this big win on Smith Lake.
