The Crestliner® MX 19 bass fishing boat is the next generation of aluminum performance. It’s shaking up the industry to give serious anglers a taste of the future of fishing.
We caught up with Crestliner boat designer Bjorn Bloom to learn what inspired MX 19 and how the design took shape.
WHAT IDEAS DROVE THE INITIAL DESIGN OF THE MX 19?
The MX 19 design is born out of our MX 21 model that Crestliner Pro John Cox has given national attention to in both the FLW Circuit and Bassmaster Elite Series. The idea behind the MX 19 was to create a model that provides the same high quality, reliability, high performance, and high horsepower we see today in the MX 21, but in a 19’ version.
WHAT CUSTOMER DID YOU HAVE IN MIND WHEN YOU DESIGNED MX 19?
The MX 19 is for the weekend warrior and tournament-ready bass fishing enthusiasts.
WHAT CHALLENGES WERE YOU SOLVING FOR WITH THIS DESIGN?
One of the main challenges we faced was validating our ability to duplicate the same top-end performance we produced in the MX 21. In ideal conditions, the MX 19 equipped with a Mercury® 200hp Pro XS will reach low 60’s [MPH]. I think it’s safe to say that we met those expectations.*
WHAT’S THE ADVANTAGE OF THE MX 19 OVER A SIMILARLY SIZED FIBERGLASS BOAT?
Price and boat weight. Competitive pricing of our Crestliner aluminum bass boat models give you the opportunity to splurge on completing your fishing package with electronics, trolling motor, and shallow water anchors. Aluminum weight and durability give you the ability to access those back shallow waters that fiberglass models can’t reach.
WHAT ADVANCES IN ALUMINUM BOAT BUILDING ALLOW FOR SUCH A HIGH-HORSEPOWER RATING AND MORE SPEED?
Our redesigned internal structure and transom support provide the capacity to handle the force of high horsepower. The pad hull design provides greater lift and water flow to the prop to maximize engine performance, while the footprint of the pad improves stability at all speeds.
This boat was built from the ground up in CAD (Computer-Aided Design), which helped us validate design before any physical build was started.
HOW DOES MX 19’S INTERIOR LAYOUT MAKE IT A BETTER BASS-FISHING BOAT?
Storage! Every useable space is dedicated to storage, from the center bow rod storage locker that will accommodate storage of 15 rods up to 8’, to the massive port and starboard bow compartments for tackle and gear storage. In addition, the MX 19 will continue the Crestliner trend in leading the market in bow deck space, boasting a massive 40 sq. ft. of casting space.
CAN YOU SPEAK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE BOW CASTING DECK?
40.58 sq. ft. of deck space in a 19.5’ bass model! The platform gives you a massive footprint of deck space to move around in, while the wide beam that’s carried through the length of the boat gives uncompromised stability while moving around the decks.
THE MX-19 IS HIGHLY ENGINEERED. WHERE IS THIS ATTENTION TO PREMIUM QUALITY MOST APPARENT?
One area where we have stepped up our game with the MX 19 is water management. Raised compartment frames and sealed compartment doors focus water to flow off the bow deck rather than draining into bow compartments, leading to drier compartments when fishing in poor weather.
